The name Mike Ditka has become synonymous with hard-nosed football and dogged determination to be the best. Coach of the 1985 Chicago Bears—perhaps the greatest football team to ever take the field—he is the only person in the history of professional football to win championships as a player, assistant coach, and head coach, as well as one of only four head coaches to have recorded over 100 victories in only ten seasons. Ditka retired from football in 1992 after a successful career in Chicago which included being named Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1988—but his legacy was far from over. After a short career as an analyst for NBC’s NFL Live, he returned to the game, taking over as head coach of the New Orleans Saints in 1997. Ditka now serves as an analyst for ESPN’s coverage of the NFL.
